Canon Pixma MP160 scanner and printer driver

All-in-one machines are getting cheaper and cheaper and one of the cheapest is the Canon Pixma MP160. Even at a low price, you get a useful device, based on a four-color print engine. Canon Pixma MP160 is a substantial machine for an entry-level MFP. It’s well designed too, from its retractable paper holder in the back to its foldable paper output tray in the front. It does not require a telescopic section for this tray, as the print mechanism is securely attached to the all-in-one. Canon Pixma MP160 is small and the well-presented control panel has only a few functions, but these are well chosen. On the right, there are black-and-white and color copy buttons, as well as one for canceling jobs, while the simple Scan and Fit to Page buttons compliment them on the left. Three indicators indicate a paper jam and low ink in the color and black cartridges, and in the center of the panel is a bright orange single-digit LCD and a column of three indicators for the size and type of ink. paper. The single character display is intelligently used not only to display the number of copies selected, between one and nine, but also to indicate occupancy, head alignment, and camera connection conditions. While it may not be as clear as a 16-character LCD, the Canon Pixma MP160 is one of the machine’s few low-cost concessions. There are no memory card slots, but since there is no LCD screen, this is not surprising. However, there is a PictBridge socket, so you can still print from a digital camera. A single USB socket on the back is the only connection to a PC. The software supplied with the Canon Pixma MP160 covers all aspects of its operation, with OCR for scanning text from the Contact Image Sensor (CIS) scanner, Canon’s Easy Photo, and Easy Web Print software, and editing photos with ArcSoft’s PhotoStudio. One of the most interesting features of this Canon Pixma MP160 machine is its print quality. Not only are the black text pages reasonably well-rendered, although they do have a bit of blurring, but the color graphics are also sharp, well outlined, and not cluttered with unsightly blurring patterns. Although the colors in our test copy are slightly lighter than the originals, the quality is still very reasonable. When it comes to photographic prints, colors are good, albeit in slightly overpriced places, and quite soft in degraded areas, like the sky. Reds and blues look particularly natural, although greens tend to yellow. Canon claims the Canon Pixma MP160 can produce a 6 “x 10” “photo lab” quality print in 52 seconds, but we couldn’t match it. Printing from a PC in premium mode took one minute and 50 seconds and in standard mode from a camera, via PictBridge, it still took one minute and three seconds. This in itself is not a bad time and is considerably faster than, say, the latest Lexmark MFPs. When printing from a camera, touch Fit to Page to print borderless. Printing on plain paper is also relatively fast with the black dot print band covering the page quickly. We completed our five-page test print in 55 seconds, which resulted in an actual print speed of just over 5ppm. However, printing mixed text and graphics took more than twice the time and came out in two minutes and four seconds. Finally, a single-page color copy took 54 seconds, up from 53 seconds claimed by Canon. These are on the higher end of inkjet multifunction printers, but they are not the highest we have seen. Color is also highly dependent on the price of Canon’s glossy photo paper, although half is still the cost of ink.
